WRONG WRONG 2019 Pedro Alves da Veiga Category: Interactive Generative Art

Concept

The WrongWrong was truly born from The Wrong and for The Wrong. The online art biennial “The Wrong” issued guidelines for artwork submissions (https://thewrong.org/open-call-artists) where they instruct artists that there is “no need for artwork inspired in news, politics, sports, twitter hate strings or anything hateful, natural catastrophes, political or universal injustices, actual or past, even if you believe you are giving it a new twist. Let's keep the content fun, creative, whimsical and inspiring.” So this artist decided to have some creative, generative fun with the above statements, as he lives in a world filled with “news, politics, sports, twitter hate strings or anything hateful, natural catastrophes, political or universal injustices, actual or past”, where all art can actually be relevant, interventive, purposeful and not get diluted in the millions of “fun, creative, whimsical and inspiring” or otherwise boring content that is constantly and massively uploaded to social media networks on a daily basis. Based on the aesthetics of pop and psychedelic culture of the 1960’s, the WrongWrong (WW) aims at making it right, not just by means of the logic double negative in its name, but also because it simultaneously is “fun, creative, whimsical and inspiring” and deals with “news, politics, sports, twitter hate strings or anything hateful, natural catastrophes, political or universal injustices, actual or past”. Interaction The WW reacts to the mouse position and left click. By positioning the cursor on different parts of the screen – and leaving it there for a while, for best results – visitors can control the psychedelic generative system behaviour, thus having fun amidst claims such as “no politics” or “no global catastrophes”. A left click anywhere on the screen clears the canvas and restarts the cycles.
